YOLO

If there is ever anything I see or hear about and want to learn more, I write it down so I can look it up online later. One thing I have seen more and more on social media sites is the term 'yolo', which after some researching I found out means 'you only live once.' Now maybe I am behind the times, but I have literally never heard heard of this being referred to as yolo or yoloing. I have heard of the saying you only live once, but I've never heard it in its abbreviated form. I have seen people using this as the captions on pictures and also as hashtags on Twitter so I thought I would look into it more. It makes me feel behind the times if you will because it seems like this has been around for a while and I didn't even know it! It has recently become more 'cool', therefore you might have seen it too and was not sure what it meant. There is an Urban Dictionary definition about the word yolo dated all the way back to 2004. If you're as unfamiliar with it as I am, let me get you up to speed...

So as it would seem the term yolo has become more popular since 2004. I'm sure it used to be uncool and even confusing when people would say it like that until more people started using it and now it seems like the cool thing to say. This goes back to the readings on the culture of cool. Something could be uncool until more and more people start to like it and use it and then before you know it, it cool!

  1. I completely agree. The reason why YOLO is so popular now is , because Drake incorporated it in a song called "The Motto".. you should check it out!
