Three Stooges and Snooki

My friend and I were having a discussion about the new Three Stooges movie. He stated he was appalled and disgusted to hear that the producers of the movie made a specific request to have Snooki from Jersey Shore be a part of the cast. As a dedicated Three Stooges fan, he thought the decision to include an icon with such a “trashy” reputation compromised the artistic integrity of the film. He believes using the Three Stooges gives the movie industry the potential to revitalize an interest in classic film for viewers, and adding Snooki does the comedy trio disrespect. My thoughts on this issue are that the film industry is most likely only reintroducing the Three Stooges in order to make a profit anyway, and including Snooki will bring in a crowd that had might of otherwise been uninterested, thus increasing box office profits even more. Is this the most ethical way to pay a tribute to such an iconic classic? Probably not. Granted, it will increase exposure of the Three Stooges to a broader audience, and may spark a genuine interest in viewers. It may also disappoint other previous fans of the series. Having Snooki in the film may change the tone, similar to how animating the characters in Alvin in the Chipmunks changed the tone of that show.
