Food Inc. Transfers to Food SNL

As I have declared before, I am a big fan of Saturday Night Live, and one weekend they had one of their faux commercials (that the advertising major in me loves) discussing an almost pizza.  I thought that this was a very timely skit considering the recent news about “pink slime” and the class’s recent viewing of “Food Inc.” In the skit the mother bakes a frozen pizza for her husband and daughter, inviting them in to eat what she calls “almost pizza” because that is the literal name on the pizza box. Her Husband tries to guess what it’s made out of, even tries to guess tofu. But the wife continues to be vague suggesting he just eat the pizza already, as she says this the pizza is somehow getting hotter. The ingredients of the pizza are so sketchy that the wife wont even eat it, just pretends. The daughter then reaches in and tries to eat a piece and as she does so, the husband knocks the slice out of her hand and it shatters into glass on the floor. Then the same slice forms itself back together and scares the family. Then, the Pfizer name is added in at the end of the faux-mercial.
Again I think that SNL is using its comedic platform to shed light on some topics, such as gender roles and now, with this skit, the recent lack in regulation by the FDA. I think that people are aware of what is going on, but unless they watch “Food Inc.” I don’t think that people know what organizations are affecting this and who is affected. I think that if shows like SNL continue to use the platforms they are given some curiosity will spark and then people will begin to research and hopefully start a movement regarding the regulation of the FDA.
