Why oh why was Pinterest created? For one, this form of social media completely infringes on SO many copyright laws that it should be shut down. But also, Pinterest completely fuels the fire for the “princess mindset.” The target demographic for Pinterest is women in their late-teens to upper twenties – such a perfect time for women to obsess over their wedding, right?
It’s bad enough that every princess movie out there encourages women to find their prince charming and live happily ever after, but Pinterest has now given women an even more delusional idea – the perfect wedding.
Before social media, women would plan their weddings with their friends, family or a wedding planner, but now, they plan it with Pinterest. Often times, women don’t just pick and choose from one wedding either – they pin HUNDREDS of different ideas from different weddings just so that they can make the “dream team” of weddings. Sounds great, right?
Hell no.
This “dream team” of weddings can spell disaster for the marriage. I mean, how is any man (or woman for that matter) supposed to live up to the expectations of the perfect wedding? Add the pressure of a perfect wedding to the already apparent pressure of the “perfect man,” and women will have guys running the opposite way. Nobody can live up to those expectations, and nobody should have to.
Critics always say that rock’n’roll and rap are the reasons why marriages no longer last forever, but I’m definitely one to disagree. The princess culture is the reason why most marriages end in divorce – nobody can be “Disney perfect,” no matter how hard we try.
But I would like to take a moment to thank Pinterest, for making it harder for anyone to be perfect.
