"Wii Shall Overcome"

After reading the article "Wii Shall Overcome", my perspective on video games has changed slightly, but not by much. I have never been a huge fan of video games and I  don't think I ever will be. I honestly think they're a waste of time, but maybe it's not video games as a whole, but what type of video games we play that could use some revamping.
In the article McGonigal talks about creating video games with a bigger purpose. A purpose that could solve problems going on in our world. "Game-addled kids, who spend an average of more than 10,000 hours fiddling with consoles and controllers before they are 21, could wind up stopping climate change with their PlayStations!" I have always thought of video games as a false sense of reality, but if the makers could create a game to get people involved with what's going on in the world instead of wasting time playing games that don't have a bigger meaning, people might be interested in that. It would give the average person the chance to put their two cents in.
I think if a game was created to try to help a certain problem going on in the world it would definitely need to be fun and interesting. That's something she mentions in the article too. If it's not fun and there's no hype it's never going to succeed because there are too many other kinds of video games that do everything. Everything but save the real world we live in.
