Why is this News?
I am just as guilty as most people when it comes to certain pleasure like watching trash tv, reality shows, and entertainment news. Most of the time instead of analyzing what is actually in front of my eyes on the screen, I instead allow my brain to turn into putty and it weakens to the ever so entertain world of TV. However, recently I've been taking more notice to what I am allowing my mind to consume and particularity what I am seeing when I watching news shows; not only entertainment news like the popular E News but even local news stations, CNN, and online news like Yahoo and MSN. I can't help but notice that three fourths of the "news" stories on TV aren't even news after all, or at least not anything worthy of the masses knowing. But then why is it on TV all the time and why do we continue to watch it. The other day I was browsing Yahoo and one of the top news stories were "Carrie Underwood flashed a bit of leg under her dress." I read the story and then immediately felt guilty afterward. Who cares if Carrie Underwood wore a dress to an awards ceremony that had a slit in it? I surely didn't but I read it anyway as I'm sure hundreds maybe even thousands of other people did. Why was this news as opposed to what is going on around the world? As opposed to bombings, and politics, and weather, and pretty much anything else that doesn't have to do with those in the limelight? It's a question I'll continue to ask but at the same time it something I myself will probably continue to watch, continue to read,
