I know Food Inc. touched on the fact that a lot of the foods
we eat are corn products. I did some research - Everything we eat is corn!
What’s interesting (and kind of gross) is that our bodies aren’t able to break
down corn. Think about it. Now, take a look at the link at the end of my post –
all of those things are made from corn and then put into other products that we
consume. Our bodies can’t break down anything we eat! It’s all a big pile of
non-nutritious starch that leaves our body the same way it enters. To me, this
doesn’t seem healthy. It also seems to me that we’ve reached a wall (much as we
did with the branding discussion). What can we really do? We’re stuck in this
awful cycle of working for cheap and then buying cheap food. Personally, I started
eating in a healthy manner because my father had a massive heart attack – My
paycheck disappears pretty quickly now that I’m buying vegetables instead of
taco bell. All the studies show that obesity is beginning at younger ages, but
how can you expect young people to afford the lavish, healthy lifestyle that is
supposedly easy to pick up? So which is more important? Being economically
stable, or living a healthy lifestyle? It seems more and more that people have
to make this choice. Two American values that are of great importance and we’re
forced to choose one way or the other. I suppose that giving up a trip to the
movies in order to add a couple years to my life by choosing to not block my
arteries is the best choice for me.
