Reflection on Girl Power Shows

Just a reflection on class discussion about “girl power “shows. I think a lot of those type of shows that use to empower little girls are slowly becoming extinct. Shows like nick news or the Clarissa explains it all are not really available to little girls anymore. In today’s culture of media, the most popular type of shows is reality TV. Television shows are taking more of an approach to real life shows because now that’s the type of entertainment people want, it shows all the drama that goes on in people life’s and it makes for good TV. A show that comes to mind that is SOOO anti girl power is BGC, or Bad Girls Club. BGC shows girls fighting, sleeping around, going out to clubs every other night and getting drunk and staying in a big mansion, which is all amplified because how do they afford some of the things that they get on the show. Of course it’s not age appropriate for little girls but girls over the age of at least 10 are going to at least know what the show is about and have watched it one time. When shows like this come out, it gives a false impression of how some girls act. Although I do watch the show, I remember an episode, that featured Natalie, where one of the girls had a daughter and actually fought Natalie for saying things like why are you even here if you have a child, shouldn’t you be trying to set an example for her.
