Insensitive Twitter Users

I just noticed a trending topic on Twitter that I cannot get off my mind, it is #BeforeZimmermanIsArrested. For those of you who don’t know about the topic here is a summary from one of the “Justice for Trayvon Martin’s” facebook pages: “Last month, 17 year old Trayvon Martin was gunned down, while walking near his home in a majority white owned gated community in Sanford, FL. Apparently, Martin, who is black, looked suspicious to Neighborhood Watch Captain, George Zimmerman, 28, who, from his car, called 911 to report the "suspicious" looking character. Against direct orders from 911 operators, Zimmerman, who allegedly stated "they always get away" decided to be over zealous in his modest, self-appointed position of Captain and directly approached Trayvon, an altercation which ended with Trayvon lying dead a mere 70 feet from his front door with Skittles in one pocket and an Arizona Tea in the other.” Zimmerman has not been charged because he stated that he shot Trayvon in self-defense and unfortunately for those looking for justice, there is not yet evidence to go against Zimmerman’s claim.

An innocent teenage boy was murdered so of course this topic is expected to come up in traditional media as well as social media but the trending topic on Twitter has shown that the use of social media desensitizes the population. This topic is not to be taken lightly, however this is what is being said on Twitter:

As much as I love Twitter when I see such insensitive things like this, people getting laughs out of talking about how the murderer of an innocent teenager will never be convicted, it reminds me of how the ease of gathering information so easily desensitizes so much of the population-- (I apologize for my language but)  it's truly a damn shame. RIP Trayvon Martin.

If you want to read more on the topic I've linked a couple articles below as well as the link to the petition to prosecute Trayvon's murderer (the first link has  a really helpful video):
