Pretty Pretty Princess
Well, the princess culture has been my absolute favorite topic so far. I think that it draws my interest so much because after going to a Catholic school for almost your whole life, princesses seem to be running around everywhere. After reading "Is Pink Necessary" I automatically thought of a girl I knew in high school. This girl was the ultimate princess. She would go tanning twice a day, get her nails done at least once a week, shop only at expensive department stores and expected only the best. I remember going over to her house after her mom and her designed it and her mother came up to me and said "Now she is a real princess." The house they designed to look like a mini celebrity house with a massive kitchen, two huge bedrooms (one for her mom and one for her) which each had multiple flat screen TV's in them that were mounted on the wall, a walk in closet that's as big as my bedroom, and a bathroom that was fit for a queen. And the most cliche thing was that her room was covered in pink- pink EVERYTHING, with quotes from Disney princesses around the room and the word "Princess" above her bed. This girl thought she was literally a modern day princess. I understand wanting to make your child feel special, but there is a huge difference between making your child feel as if they are entitled to anything they want or that they can work for anything they set their mind to. I think that parents need to be aware of how far they take things like this and be able to have their children distinguish play time from the real world.
