The Trayvon Martin case has touched the hearts and minds of many. Since February 26, 2012 the media has been flooded with both opinions and facts.
Since the case has gone public, I have witnessed social media take a stand. As stated in class, social media is the exchange of user-generated content. Users have became activists with this particular case. In a way, this case has also allowed for alternative media. Those that have not always had a voice now have one. Any and everyone touched by this case has either made a post, worn a hoodie, or simply have "liked" a pic via Facebook.
The concept of live activism is represented through this case. In a way this form of social media incorporates both Gladwell and Stones point of view. Some individuals that took a stand to this case personally knew Trayvon. Going with Stone's definition of activism, this stand has somewhat been a leaderless organization. Throughout the country, many have simply just bonded together a took a stand. Like Gladwell's definiton of activism, I do think that this form has spread to other organizations, not just activism groups--political groups as well.
Through social media, I strongly believe that this case has earned most of its awareness and publicity. Although a simple, RIP TRAVYON MARTIN, tweetis only 18 characters, it moves the audience to long-form thinking. I strongly believe that the case has gone more in depth because of social media. The "Power of Many" concept has heavily been applied if you ask me. There has been a great deal of social connectivity taken place. I almost think that because this case has been readily available on various social media sites, many have given thought to it. Many, being those that usually do not endeavor in politics, or activism.
I am grateful that this case has been the topic of Facebook statuses, Youtube clips, and Twitter feeds. I too have accessed much of the info from social media. I am more than happy that because of social media, people have taken a stand for justice to be served...
